- Detroit Tigers. (He lost
- nearly five years to World War II military
- service.) But his achievements make him
- one the greatest righthanded power hitters
- in baseball history.

- In 1938 "HammerinΓÇÖ Hank" hit 58 home runs,
- just two shy of Babe Ruth's then record 60. In
- a total of 1,394 games, the 6' 4'' tall, 215-
- pound first baseman hit 331 homers, scored
- 1,051 runs, and batted in 1,276 runs. His
- career batting average was .313.
